Introduction to 3CO02 Principles of Analytics
The 3CO02 Principles of Analytics unit teaches people professionals how to analyze ideas and use evidence to make decisions to support people practice issues in the organization. For the following questions, students prepare a presentation with presenter notes. Task one has a word count of 1750.
AC 1.1 Define what is meant by evidence-based practice and how it is applied within organisations, providing three examples of different types of evidence-based practice that can be used to inform principle-led judgements and outcomes for an organisation?
Evidence-based practice is defined by students as the use of evidence and critical thinking in decision-making. The approach requires decision-makers to rely on facts and evidence rather than personal wisdom and experience (Young, 2022).

- Data from the company
- Organizational managers’ and consultants’ judgment and expertise
- Data gathered from stakeholders
AC 1.2 Explain the reasons why it is important to use data to help assist organisational improvements and why this data need to be timely, ethical and accurate
The following are some of the reasons why data can help organizations improve:
Promotes organizational culture, performance, and internal and external perceptions.
- Organizational productivity is one example of an improvement.
- Profits have increased.
- Improved employee morale
- Positive company reputation
Students also explain why data should be ethical, timely, and accurate. Students should think about explaining the General Data Protection Regulation (Ayling and Suff, 2021)
AC 1.3 Explain two different types of data measurements and information that can be used by people professionals, and how they are each used to collect and collate information to support effective decision-making
Data measurements include the following:
- Qualitative information
- Qualitative information
Employee absence numbers are a quantitative measure that can be used to make more informed decisions. Surveys are qualitative indicators of effective decision-making.
AC 1.5 Explain how organisational policies, procedures and other forms of evidence can be used to support appropriate choices and decisions
The following are some examples of organizational policies and procedures: rewards and benefits policy

AC 2.1 Explain the range of internal and external customers and stakeholders, that people professionals work with, and the part that influencing plays within the relationships
Students provide examples of internal and external customers.

Customers and suppliers are examples of external customers.
Students describe the roles of people professionals in influencing customers. Students describe how people professionals communicate in order to identify customer needs and develop strategies for meeting those needs.
AC 2.2 Explain what is meant by creating value as a people professional, and identify benefits of providing value to customers and stakeholders
Students define value creation in terms of how organizations invest in people, specifically leaders, managers, and employees. People in organizations should be motivated to complete their assigned tasks and add value (Burke, 2018). People professionals contribute to value creation by-
- Company branding
- Ethics and values in education
- Employee involvement
Maintaining value is important because it allows the organization to attract more suppliers, gain more customers, and improve market competitiveness.
AC 2.4 Drawing on good practice examples, explain how the work that people professionals perform benefits others within an organisation in supporting good practice, open cultures, commitment and engagement
Promoting diversity and inclusion is an example of a good people practice. This is accomplished during the recruitment and selection process, as well as through the provision of learning and development opportunities.
Diversity and inclusion are positive people practices that help others. People in the organization are very satisfied; they have the opportunity to express their concerns and improve their relationships with others.
AC 2.3 Explain how social media can be used internally and externally in workplaces to improve communication and organisational practices, highlighting the risks in a work context
Students describe how social media can help with internal and external communication. Professionals use various types of social media forums to share information and ideas at work.

- Influences employee well-being
